Our Elementary students are learning the skills they need to be empathetic school community members with the academic skills they need to succeed.
Kindergarten through forth grade students participate in weekly guidance lessons that focus on developing classroom skills, social skills, and emotional regulation. Students learn from activities, stories, The Ophelia Project and the Second Step program.
Second graders have been working on building respect. Respect is treating people nicely and like they are important. Students discuss avoiding interruptions, paying attention, listening, and speaking to others kindly.
Kindergarten & First Grade
Students listened to Charlene Costanzo's The Twelve Gifts of Birth and discussed the special qualities that all children posses.
Using Dr. Suess's story The Sneetches, students identified discrimination and how it negatively impacted the Sneetches' society. Students embraced celebrating diversity and standing up for equality.
Students are learning about the different jobs that keep our community running. They are learning to be career explorers, keep there options open, and make the connection between classroom learning and job readiness.
